Social Impact
Jacana’s key social impact objective is sustainable new job creation in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In order to measure our success against this objective, Jacana works with each of its Partner GCMs (and the investors in those funds) to establish a framework for tracking social impact. As an example, these could include social impact metrics such as:
- The number of new jobs created by each SME portfolio company (as an indicator of a growing or catalytic business)
- Wage growth by each SME portfolio company (as an indicator of benefits passed on to the community)
- The percentage of procurement from local suppliers per SME portfolio company (as an indicator of impact on the local community)
- Total tax expense per SME portfolio company (as an indicator of a growing or catalytic business)
- Additional finance mobilized (as an indicator of leverage generated by the initial investment)
The Jacana Foundation
In addition to its direct social impact via SME investment funds, Jacana intends that a percentage of its future profits will be dedicated to a foundation that will support charitable projects in Sub-Saharan Africa that are consistent with Jacana’s vision.
